About Wayman Britt
Wayman was appointed County Administrator/Controller for Kent County in 2017. During his time with Kent County and upon his retirement in July 2021, he received numerous recognitions, awards, and acknowledgements about his service to Kent County. Prior to his role with Kent County, he held several management positions at Steelcase, Inc., and Michigan National Bank - Central. Wayman reengineered Kent County’s performance measurements program, establishing the Performance Excellence System and the Excellence in Action program, a first for county governments in Michigan. It was recognized by the Michigan Association of Counties and the Michigan Local Government Benchmarking Consortium as a best practice.
Wayman is a recipient of the University of Michigan’s Fielding H. Yost Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence and helped lead his team to the Big Ten Championship in 1974 and the national championship game against Indiana in 1976. The University’s Wayman Britt Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year award is given out annually in his honor. He is a member of the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame and the Flint Area Afro-American Hall of Fame. He is passionate about getting results and serving others, and currently serves on the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Board, the Michigan Fitness Foundation Board, and the Trinity Health Michigan Board.
